The Singapore Young Entrepreneurs Award (SYEA), a business and community initiative founded by JCI (Marina) Singapore and co-organised with People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM) will be working with various ecosystem partners to empower their nominees through a series of business masterclasses, mentorships and virtual networking sessions.

Nominees stand to win business digitalisation packages, special features in local media, SYEA and partner’s media platforms, exclusive access to private business networking events, dialogues and more.

Over the past 5 months, the team has conducted various webinars and dialogue sessions that are relevant to empowering business owners to future-proof their business and  tide over negative economic impacts of COVID 19. Coming up soon in November 2020, SYEA is partnering OSG Youth Alliance and *SCAPE to bring two live webinar sharing by industry experts on “Doing Business in China” (Nov 14)  and ” Ecopreneurship” (Nov 25).

In the months leading up to the announcement of the winners in March 2021,  there will be a line-up of programs revolving around the 3 pillars “Building a sustainable network”, “Mentorship” and enhancing “Financial Accessibility”. In that time, judges and mentors will also be actively involved in the programs and oversee the education and experience of the nominees.

“I believe that these mentorships, on top of all the different components, will make a difference.” Says Guest-of-honour, member of Parliament (MP) for MacPherson SMP, Tin Pei Ling during the SYEA’s  inaugural launch on 26th September 2020. “The greatness of your achievements will depend on how big your heart is, and how great your dreams are.”

ENDORSEMENTS AND MENTORSHIPS FOCUSED

Building the foundation for Singapore’s youth entrepreneurs requires an approach that addresses current challenges in preparation for the new normal. SYEA has various business programs to include mentorship, masterclasses, webinars and VC matchmaking, as well as plans for exclusive offline events from June 2020 till December 2021.

According to SYEA Organising Advisor JCI Senator Lim Hui Jie, “The Key concept of SYEA is to create an ongoing, sustainable business ecosystem for successful and budding entrepreneurs to network and learn from each other’s experiences. The ultimate goal is to honour and empower successful youth entrepreneurs to continue growing stronger while giving back to the society.” Hui Jie is also a judge and mentor for SYEA. He is a successful serial entrepreneur himself and listed his previous company at over USD 230 Million before 30 years old. He is currently CCO of Vision Group, a humanity plus company that believes in using technology for the betterment of the human race.

Alvin Poh, the co-founder of Vodien Internet Solutions which was acquired by Australian online solutions provider Dreamscape Networks, for $30 million in 2017 will also be one of the judges and speakers. “Success to me means having made the world a better place: be it through the business partners that I work with, the livelihood and lives of the employees that I hire, great customer experience, or through the impact that I create from what I do.”

In Q1 2021, Hui Jie and Alvin Poh will be sharing in the SYEA Masterclass series on “Growth, Sustainability and Exit Strategies” that entrepreneurs should keep an eye on.

Fellow judge Joanna Portilla, BBM, PBM, a strong advocate for women empowerment will also be sharing her journey as a woman entrepreneur alongside other speakers in the SYEA Masterclass series. “You should never think that your effort is too small to make a difference, especially for business owners. You are an expert in your own area. If you have the means to contribute money, do so. If you have the opportunity to upskill your employees, do so. If you have the expertise to empower businesses to digitalise, save cost and future-proof their daily operations, step forward.” Joanna is the Co-Founder of The Collective Effort, a social enterprise whose mission is to create meaningful impact in the society by empowering and uplifting vulnerable or financially challenged women, children and families.

SYEA believes that it is equally important to equip the nominees with both the mental tools to succeed, as well as to instill a strong spirit of social responsibility. SYEA Alumni will be formed by March 2021, and they will be the first batch to spearhead SYEA’s CSR efforts – SYEA Care, after the awards together with JCI Marina, PAYM and SYEA Ecosystem partners.
